KAMPALA. Any annual local tournament that survives for 22 years without an omitted edition deserves to be cut some slack. The JBG Golf tournament lies in that class and its back for yet another outing starting today up to Saturday at the Entebbe Golf Club.

Launched yesterday at the JBG (GAUFF Group) offices in Kololo, Kampala, the event will have room for professionals, gross and subsidiary players with a good number of entries confirmed. Played on stableford - full handicap mode, professionals tee off today while gross players get in on the act tomorrow into Saturday.

Entebbe Golf Club Chairman Twinemanzi Tumubweinee is adamant the showpiece will be treated as a prestigious meet at the Par 71 course. JBG’s Shs 20m contribution to the cause even makes it bigger and better than the previous editions.

“JBG is a great event for the club,” noted Twinemanzi. “As hosts, we are hopeful of organising a good tournament to leave all participants satisfied,” he added.

JBG also marks 40 years of existence and Managing Director Emmanuel Mugamba is confident the Open can be a unifying factor between the golfing and engineering fraternities.

‘We are very happy with what we do, said Mugamba citing the Open’s uniqueness compared to other events on the local golf calendar. Over 200 golfers have been drawn for the subsidiaries while 33 professionals have registered with one female, Flavia Namakula, in the playing field.
