By halfway point on Friday, Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) president Eva Magala was already delighted that the country was on course to a successful hosting of the East & Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (ECAACT).

For the biennial championship which climaxed last evening in Entebbe, Magala was on cloud nine after hosting Kenya and Tanzania for the 54-hole stroke-play event.

“I would like to thank God,” stated Magala whose two-year term of office at ULGU wraps up in March next year.

“My tenure has been a success because I got support from the lady golfers and the community. It wouldn’t have been easy if they weren’t supportive,” said the lady who has played the game for 23 years.

“Our ladies have won big trophies on the continent during my time and as I end it.”
Even before she bows out of ULGU officially, Magala was on Friday elected as the new Trustee for the East & Central Africa region for AACT.

“I thank God that I have voted as the Trustee for East & Central Africa this afternoon.

Special mentors
“So I would like to thank Hon. Monica Ntege, Dr Rose Azuba who have been my mentors as well as Tanzania’s Sophia Vigo.

“I copied most of their leadership skills and the outgoing Trustee Zambian Moono Mwila too. With their support, I believe I will serve well in my new position,” she added.

ULGU work had curtailed Magala’s time for playing the game. She will now freer as she prepares to head to West Africa to defend her title at the Nigeria Ladies Golf Open next month. Only three nations took part in Entebbe and AACT president Ntege rued the missing participants.

“We have nine member countries in this region. Perhaps, it is time we put some rules to see that teams participate in the ECAACT,” said the Works Minister.

Two years ago, Reunion Islands failed to host this tournament. It had last been held in Zambia in 2015.
