Mutebi ‘Deco’ surges into 7th, Indiza still top

KAMPALA-Kenyan Dismas Indiza wasn’t impressed with his Day Two round of two-under 70 but he maintained a one-shot lead during the Pam Golding Safari Open at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort & Spa in Kigo yesterday.
The record five-time Uganda Pros’ Open winner is at six-under overall in the race for the $10000 (Shs37m) purse but his country-mate Edwin Mudanyi is still breathing down his neck.
“My round was so bad, I didn’t enjoy it,” Indiza described his round that had four birdies on Holes No.2, No.5, No.8 and No.13 yesterday. The man from Mumias could have returned a calculated six-under for the day but there was a treacherous double-bogey on the short par-3 Hole No.15.”
This event is the fifth leg on the Safari Series, whose top players will feature at the Magical Kenya Open in March, part of the PGA European Tour. It explains Kenya’s heavy presence up the leaderboard. Mudanyi who also carded two-under par 70 to add to his Day One score of three-under 69.
Yet again, Ugandan pros struggled at the water-filled and among the five who made the cut, Herman Deco Mutebi and Ronald Rugumayo are tied seventh at 145.
“I am very happy,” Mutebi said after returning two-under par 70 for the day for one-over overall. The Entebbe-bred rookie pro made four birdies.
