One-shot lead for Indiza

Kampala. With a star-cast field overshadowing his legacy, Kenyan Dismas Indiza reminded ardent followers of the game that he is record champion by taking a one-shot lead after Day One of the 13th Castle Lite Uganda Professionals Golf Open in Entebbe yesterday.
Champion in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012, Indiza’s experience came in a heavy package as he fired a round of three-under par 69 to lead the 98-man field on a rather sunny day at the par-71 course.
Indiza leads the quest for the biggest share of the $50000 (Shs191m) purse after he fired six birdies on Holes No.1, 3, 7, 9, 15 and 18 but he was pegged back by bogeys on Holes No.8, 16 and 17.
“I had a good showing on the front nine and missed a few shots on the back,” he said in return to the clubhouse, “The course is rough with fast greens. I believe Day Two will be much better.”
To keep top, Indiza will need to wrestle the challenge from the chasing pack that has Zimbabwean Robson Chinhoi, Kenyan Greg Snow and Zambian Dayne Moore tied all a shot behind on 69. More to note here, Chapman Golf Club’s Chinhoi produced a bogey-free front nine with four birdies.
After this trio, the hosts Uganda’s flag is raised by Uganda Golf Club’s Denis Anguyo and US-based Deus Kitata who are tied with Kenyans Simon Ngigi, David Wakhu and Alfred Nandwa on one-under 70 in fifth place.
Key to note is Kitata, Amateur Open winner in 2014, lit up the action with a sweet hole-in-one following the half-way break at the par-3 Hole No.10 using a TaylorMade-2 ball and TaylorMade SI 7-iron in company of counterpart George Olayo and Zimbabwean Ignatius Mketekete.
“For me, Day One is always a practice round and then business follows,” always bold, Kitata said about his round.
“That was my second hole-in-one in Entebbe having shot one on No.6 years back,” he reminisced.
Notwithstanding two bogeys and as many birdies, the Florida-based star, however, struggled with par-4 Hole No.14 where he putted five times for a triple-bogey.
