For over 21 years, golfers from different parts of the country have been embracing the Kinyara Sugar Golf Open, to among others, crown the year in style. The tourney, held annually at the year’s tail end, sees both amateurs and professionals take part.

The 2018 edition, to be held this weekend, has attracted a sponsorship package of Shs90m from UAP Old Mutual, ICEA Group and Liaison. Over 100 players have already confirmed participation, according to David Kuria, the Managing Director, UAP Old Mutual, who have sunk in Shs35m.
“It is our commitment to sponsor different sports disciplines to promote talent and be part of Uganda’s prosperity and growth through sports. Through the years, we have seen golfing talent grow and Kinyara Open has provided much that need competition and talent growth,” added Kuria.

Last year, Ronald Rugumayo emerged winner, while Phillip Kasozi topped the professionals and walked away with lion’s share of the Shs10m pro kitty.

Like has been the case, this year’s edition shall have the famous hole-in-one on the troublesome Hole No.7, whose winner will walk away with Shs1.8m. Action kicks off on Friday with pros, whose action will stretch into Saturday. Amateurs will play on Saturday only.
