Kampala. Coming second in the All Africa Golf Junior Open in Gaborone Bostwana to qualify for the golf World Cup in Japan, now lies in history. The focus is now on the big task that lies ahead -that is replicating the same form on the world stage. National team coach Stephen Kasaija and his boys made history by qualifying for the first ever World Cup in the nation’s history. They join South Africa in representing Africa at the tournament.

Innocent Kihika, president of Uganda Golf Union while unveiling the winning team to the press at GEMS Cambridge International School said, “We need to start preparations right away because June is just a couple of months a way. However, some boys have to finish their school programmes but as soon as they return for holidays in May, we shall begin a residential camp.”

Kihika also called the team to complete the history cycle by getting the same results. “When we started this campaign our aim was to qualify for the World Cup and now that we are there, I believe we can also pull off another success like we did in the All Africa Juniors,” he said.

On the other hand, the winning team will be joined by other youngsters in camp who will be preping for the Victoria Cup due in June. The Victoria Cup is an annual tournament played between Uganda and Kenya and the 2019 edition will be held in Kampala.
However, Kasaija and his aces will not be part of the Victoria Cup as it falls on the same date with the World Cup.
