Veteran rally driver John Burrows Lumu has officially showcased the Subaru Impreza N14 car which he hopes will help him improve his 18th-place finish in 2014, his best ever.

After nine years behind the wheels, Lumu is stepping up from the Subaru N8, starting with this weekend’s Pearl of Africa Rally. The driver, who has finished 13 times in his career 26 competitive races, will be joined by co-driver Arnold Ddungu in the cockpit.

“Every driver’s dream in Uganda’s motorsports is to win or do better in the Pearl Rally. That is why I have decided to bring in this car and do better,” said Burrows, whose first test of rallying was in the same competition in 2011. This year, he has taken part in two races; the Club Tavern Kick SMC Challenge Rally and CMC Challenge Rally, finishing 19th and 18th, respectively.

The Pearl of Africa Rally revs off on Friday with a Super Special Stage at the Motorsport Arena Busiika before heading to Kayunga district on Saturday and Sunday. The event is sponsored by Shell Uganda.
