The future of the Pearl Rally on the FIA African Rally Championship calendar remain in a balance.

This was after the World Motor Sport Council Annual General Assembly under the chair of the FIA President Jean Todt and FIA Deputy President for Sport, Graham Stoker put a yellow card on the annual event on Tuesday in Paris.

The fourth and final meeting of the year was held in Paris on Tuesday. The Pearl safety has been the concern of the FIA since the damaging report by Richard Leeke of South Africa who was the chairman of Stewards. His report slammed the organisers (FMU) and wanted the event overhauled. (Read Daily Monitor April 26, 2017)

The Safety again came under scrutiny During the Mbarara Rally when one person died after being knocked by a rally car. The accident forced the FIA to send officials to access the safety in Uganda events.
