Ladies in charge of Kapeka Autocross

KAMPALA- Ladies are now taking a leading role in sports around the globe in different sports disciplines.
On Wednesday night, Stephanie Frappart became the first female referee to officiate a major men’s European match. She was in charge of the Uefa Super cup match between Liverpool and Chelsea.
In Kapeka, Luwero District on Sunday, ladies will be in charge of organising the third round of the national Autocross.
Helena Alum is the clerk of the course (CoC) and she will be assisted by Halima Namakula. Nanet Blick, a regular navigator, will this time round be in charge of safety representing FMU while Hellen Bukenya will be in charge of marshals with Sumaya Nakitende as her assitant.
Ernest Ziwa, FMU Assistant General Secretary told Daily Monitor that the main reason to why this event is going to be manned by ladies is that they want to promote gender balance and at the same time promote women in motorsports.
“We have ladies in this sport mainly in drivers, technical and administration.
“FIA want us to promote ladies in the sport and this is their turn to showcase what they have learnt,” Ziwa explained.
Top drivers Hassan Alwi (Subaru N14), Rajiv Ruparelia (VW Proto), Ronald Ssebuguzi ( Evo X), Yasin Nasser (Subaru GVB), Christakis Fitidis ( Evo X), Jonas Kansime and Moses Lumala( Evo IX) have registered for the event.
The event is sponsored by Napil yele investments International Ltd, Goodwill Tiles, Operation Wealth Creation( OWC), Hug and Mo Company, Liao Shen Industrial Park and Fasal.
