Nasser win opens up NRC title race, as cars head to Fort Portal

KAMPALA- Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba started the V-Power Shell Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally fourth on the National Rally Championship (NRC) standing.

Their maiden victory in Kayunga on Saturday has put them top of the log ahead of seasoned drivers with three events to go. No few than eight drivers still have interest with three rounds to go.

The victory put them top of the championship with 285 points, 45 ahead of Ssebuguzi the previous leader who failed to add to his tally following a turbo problem which forced him to retire.

The Moil Rally Team crew in Subaru GVB edge Shell Helix Rally Team of Arthur Blick Jr and George Ssemakula in Mitsubishi Evo X by a mare four seconds with Christakis Fitidis / Eric Nzamwita (EVO X) in third place a further five minutes.

At the scrutineering of the cars last Thursday, Nasser told the Daily Monitor that he was looking forward to have fun but could not predict the outcome.

After the event Nasser said: We have moved a step forward and let’s see how it goes now in the championship.”
Nasser is now looking forward to the Mountain of the Moon Rally in Fort Portal early next month.

Blick Jr, still laments the puncture he got in Lwasa (25.32km) section, five kilometers before the finish thus losing the victory but remains positive. “This was a well-earned podium after all the problem we had including the puncture. I remain hungry for victory and looking forward to the next event,” he said.
