Orland brothers impress in 2019 season opener at Garuga

Did you see that? Stav Orland goes airborne on Sunday at Busiika. JOHN BATANUDDE

Kampala- The Orland Brothers Racing Team took down the house making their first appearance of the 2019 season in local events as competitors at the Victoria Racing Track in Garuga on Sunday with an excellent showing by riders Stav and Stav Orland in the 85 and 125CC classes, respectively.
Their younger brother, Alon, was however left to sniff the dust of Gift Ssebuguzi in the 65CC class.

This was the first time the dominant racers have participated in local calendar competitions despite dominating elsewhere.

The power-sapping hard and dusty circuit marked the official season starter, attracting the best names as everyone prepares to get up to racing speed ahead of the long year.

For the 50CC class, it was a chance to show off its fresh lively and mostly a new-rider line-up, with two very determined races, William Blick Jnr and Miguel Katende, coming hot off a dedicated training programme in the off-season.

Aside from the one-sided MXI class where Maxime Van Pee dominated a returning Arthur Blick Jnr as Assaf Natan disappeared in thin air, the big crowds of spectators were left in awe. One particular moment was in the 125CC class where with Ali ‘Bobo’ Omar, Alistair Blick and Fortune Sentamu missing with injuries Aviv Orland on the back of his 2019 Husqvarna bike did not even spare the chief funder of the Orland Team, Barack, whom he overlapped on several occasions.

“The track was too hard, but I managed to win and thank God I left the track injury free now I am looking forward to the next races of the season,” said Stav.

Ashiraf Mbabazi Jr topped the peewee class followed by Jonathan Katende and Talha Katende.

If that was warm up, action is still in galore with the second round scheduled for Busiika on February 24.
