Riders to share Shs80m prize money at Armed Forces MX

Riders at the inaugural Armed Forces MX Championship are expected to share approximately UGX80m ($21,000) at Uganda Sports Arena Busiika on Sunday.
The event has attracted around 100 riders of which 30 are foreigners from Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Israel, USA and Canada.
The riders will battle in different classes with from 50cc juniors to MX Vets.
It is the second time Uganda is hosting such a big event, the first was the FIM Africa Nation’s Championship in 2012. During the launch in August, Barak Orland, the FMU vice president in charge of motorcycling explained that they had organised the event to bridge the gap between UPDF and civilians.
“It is important for Armed Forces (AF) and civilians to understand that we are one with a common agenda. This event will allow the AF to interact with civilians,” he narrated. He said all the proceeds will go AF hospitals and schools.
The Boda boda riders will also share Shs59m. Over Shs750m (approx. $200,000) will be spent on the event.
Meanwhile, Scrutineering of the bikes will take place on Saturday starting at 10 am to 1pm. On the same day, riders will have a chance to test the track thrice.
This morning, the foreign riders and sponsors will hold a press conference at Tamarai Restaurant, Kololo.
