The crew of Ronald Ssebuguzi and Leon Ssenyange, in Mitsubishi Evolution X, will make their Kenya Safari Rally debut at its 67th edition.
Team Ssebuguzi currently lead the NRC title race. The Safari Rally will run as a World Rally Championship (WRC) candidate event as well as an Africa Rally Championship (ARC) round.
The three-day event will run July 5-7. Kephar Walubi and Anthony Mugambwa also in a Mitsubishi Evolution X are the other Ugandan crew to have registered for the annual event thus far.
Twenty one (21) drivers have so far registered and entries close on June 19.
Ssenyange said they are ultimately going to compete with the best in a WRC organised event. “We are looking forward to the event. The car is being modified to suit the Kenya roads which might be smoother this time round as a WRC requirement,” he told Daily Monitor yesterday.
For Ssenyange, this will be his first time to participate in an event outside Uganda. Ssebuguzi has twice participated in Kenya organised events.
The event will have a total 881km spread over eight competitive sections (CS)
Meanwhile, defending Safari Rally champion Carl Tundo (Kenya) makes his Zambia Rally debut this weekend in an Evo X.
He will be joined by fellow Kenyan Onkar Rai in a Skoda Fabia R5. The event is the third on the ARC calendar.
