Jinja-based Rally driver Kepher Walubi has thrown down a challenge to fellow drivers ahead of the FMU Jinja Challenge Rally this weekend.
The two-day event is the second round of the National Rally Championship (NRC).
The Mitsubishi Evolution X driver, who will be navigated by Anthony Mugambwa, told Daily Monitor that this season he is up for the challenge and is targeting a podium finish in his home event.
“Last season, it was a learning process for me and the car. Now am driving one of the best cars in the country which most drivers are dreaming of,” he remarked.
“This season fans are going to see a different driver coming to shock the big guys and also challenge the NRC title.”
Ready to bridge gap
Since he joined the sport only three years ago, Walubi believes the big boys have been beating him with nearly 10 minutes.
But he is certain that this time round, even top drivers like Jas Mangat and Ronald Ssebuguzi are going to find it difficult to beat him by fourminutes.
He wants to reward rally fans from Jinja with an early Easter present, by winning this weekend. “I will build on the 7th place finish in Mbarara,” he said.
Walubi added that as a show of support, his legion of fans will sponsor his fuel, accommodation and other logistics.
Walubi also observed that he roads in this event are fast and will favour more powerful cars like the ones driven by Mangat and Ssebuguzi.
The event has a total of 289.98 km, of which 179.38km is spread over 11 competitive sections (CS).
