Title favourites Isabeti and St Lawrence University (SLAU) face off this afternoon at Lido Beach Entebbe in what promises to be a sparkling and attacking affair.
Isabeti steely defender Rica Byaruhanga says it is games like these that determine the team will lift the title and they are ready for SLAU onslaught.
Byaruhanga, also the Sand Cranes assistant captain, has been part of the Isabeti dominated national team that lost to Tanzania 2-1 in the final in the Copa Beach Soccer Championship in Dar es Salaam last week.
“Isabeti players have really expressed why we are league champions; we concede less and score more. On average, we concede two or less goals in match,” Byaruhanga told Sunday Monitor.
Peter Seguya’s SLAU have been perennial contenders but have failed short when it matters most. Byaruhanga believes with players like Meddie Kibirige, Roch Somoka and Swaib Kakwaya Isabeti goes into today’s match as hot favourites.
“We have the fighting spirit, connect like business partners and know each other so well.”
Isabeti coach Issa Assimwe earmarked SLAU as credible title contenders but with their formbook that saw the hammer Entebbe Shark 8-2 and Bishop Stuart 7-2, he says the contest is theirs to lose.
In other matches, last year’s semifinalists Stormers will take on fast-rising Buganda Royal while new comers Entebbe Sharks and Mutoola Beach will square off in the last game of the day. Relatedly, the Sand Cranes team was hosted to a dinner by President Yoweri Museveni at State House.
