Champs Kabasweka, Kesiime exit, Bye Bye Kiwanuka, Mukasa combo

Entebbe. The par-71 Entebbe Club course has easily been the best hangout place for elites and corporates every second Saturday of the month. And justifiably so.

The social amenity comes with its challenges but also offers abundant rewards for golfers and patrons that play strategic games and those that make the most of their time at the 19th hole.

Round III brought with it a lot talking moments but the biggest of them all was that there will be a new champion at the third edition of the Singleton Golf Challenge.
Defending champions Peace Kabasweka and Sheila Kesiime met their ‘death’ courtesy of a 3/2 loss to Samuel Kato and Charles Odere.

“We prepared well and said our prayers. But we also know that our opponents did the same. Maybe God listened to their prayers more this time round. We remain thankful to our fans and all our sponsors that fully supported us,” said Kesiime at the glamourous awards ceremony held under the ‘African’ theme.

New champion
Like Kabasweka and Kesiime, the inaugural champions Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri, too, ended their campaign at Hole No.16 after going down 3-2 to determined newbies Andrew Atuhaire and Geoffrey Orach.

Crowd favourites Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Elly Mukasa succumbed to pressure in their 3/1 loss to in-form combo of Wendy Angudeyo and Doreen Mwesigye. “The pressure in the Singleton Challenge is something else,” said Kiwanuka while he relived the pressure-filled round against the lady pairing.
His partner Mukasa was speechless and could only manage to break into song when given the microphone.

“Bali Bakuba, Bakuba,” which can loosely be translated into English as ‘Those ones can beat’ is what the man nicknamed Sober could bellow out before he was joined in song and dance by the full gallery at the 19th hole. Bali Bakuba is an interchange from Ugandan artiste Apass (Alexander Bagonza)’s Didi Dada hit.

But on track to win the grand prize – a flight to the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic in January 2020 – alive is another dynamic lady duo amiable Moureen Okura and Martha Babirye. The two were too much for leftie Gloria Mbaguta, who played without her partner Hon. Evelyn Asiimwe.

Asiimwe stayed away, obviously against her will, but on unavoidable work commitments, and could only follow the action using her mobile phone as partner Mbaguta fell 4/3 at hole No.15. Silver Rugambwa and Ashraf Bagalana alongside Raymond Mwesigye and Ibrah Bagalana progressed to the coveted quarterfinals.

But the quartet of Tim Mwanda and Ssuubi Kiwanuka alongside Charles Hamya and Joseph Bogera must wait for another week before they know which pairing will be among the last four.
The quartet’s game was stopped due to failing light with both All Square as they headed to the playoff holes.

The night’s host Patrick ‘Salvador’ Idringi kept the patrons alive and engaged whereas King Saha took the roof off the building his sensational style of crooning.
