The Dolphins Fast and Furious Gala due September 1 at Gems Cambridge International School – Butabiika offers a speed test for swimmers after the July break.
The fun gala, bankrolled by Riham, Movit and DStv, has 25m (for swimmers under nine years) and 50m races with a 100m individual medley event across all age categories to start it off. If past form and results early in the year are anything to go by, then the hosts Dolphins are set to dominate as they did in the last two editions and at the National Inter-club Championships in June.
The most intriguing race will be the 13-14 year old girls’ 50m race where Kirabo Namutebi will be hoping to go under the new 27.53 she made at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Rwanda just over a week ago.
Her teammates Ben Kaganda, the boys’ most valuable swimmer at the Games, and Tendo Mukalazi were also in top form in Rwanda but will have Adnan Kabuye and Darren Ssamula for competition in Butabiika.
The latter two represented the country at the Africa Youth Games in Algeria last month and will be keen to let their experience shine through.
