KAMPALA- At least four clubs are sure to have representatives at the inaugural Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) Water Polo Competition due July 28-29.

The bulk of the competitors will come from Greenhill Academy, also the likely hosts of the event, and Altona Swim Club while Makerere University and Seagulls Swim Club have their work cut out in terms of raising numbers.

“It has been challenging learning the sport,” Makerere’s Ronald Daisuke Ssegwanyi, told Daily Monitor during a development camp held by coaches Gram Gil and Erick Kisero last Saturday at Greenhill to assess players’ progress.

“The swimming aspects are pretty easy but issues to do with ball handling are still a challenge,” he explained.
Brian Kasirye is one of two only swimmers at Seagulls but he has had a smooth sail through the experience of transitioning to water polo.

The bigger task for the coaches is to have more participants even though four clubs for the inaugural championships of a sport that started attracting people’s attention in November is seen as commendable progress.
