England Roses today 8.45pm at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
And team captain Peace Proscovia has asked her teammates to bring out their best to keep Uganda’s flag high.

Although England Roses are favourites to win this contest after completing a 3-0 clean sweep against Uganda in 2018 English Test Series as well as triumphing 55-49 during the Commonwealth Games last year in Australia, Proscovia has rallied her team not to look at past performance but aim at beating the odds.
“We should get out of our comfort zone and play to the best of our abilities. All teams play equally well and we should not underestimate any team,” said Proscovia.

Players to watch
The She Cranes captain, who plies her trade for Australian League side Sunshine Coast Lightning was named among the players to watch at this year’s World Cup.
The 6’4 shooter will be Uganda’s solution against English goalkeeper Geva Mentor, who also plays for Collingwood Magpies in the Australian League. The two met last month during their league clash and Proscovia’s Sunshine shine Coast Lightning won 52-50. The shooting ace and Gilberts Brand ambassador wants the She Cranes to achieve greatness in their Group D fixtures where they are pooled against England, Samoa and Scotland.

She believes the later stages of the competition will be more complicated. Proscovia’s assessment does not differ from that of coach Vincent Kiwanuka, who says the She Cranes will meet even more complex opponents in later stages of the competition. “We are most likely to meet South Africa and Jamaica in the second round of preliminaries. We do not have experience with those teams and they are so good. Therefore we need to be well prepared against them. Early wins will do us much favour,” Kiwanuka said.

The She Cranes will play Samoa and Scotland on Saturday and Sunday respectively to complete their group fixtures.
The team returns for her third World Cup after the 1979 and 2015 editions where they came 13th and eighth respectively.
