Maxime demands competition in MX1

Maxime van Pee has won the MX1 title five times but is not satisfied with the level of competition in the category.
The Uganda team captain was speaking after the conclusion of the seventh and final round of the Mountain Dew MX Championship 2019 at Victoria Race Track Garuga on Sunday.
“We need to look at our local rules to come to terms with what is on the ground. If you look at categories MX2 and MX1, the level of competition is down,” Maxime told Daily Monitor.
“The last race of MX1 where Fortune (Sentamu) joined us was the best as it kept fans on their feet. Also the MX125 battle between Ali ‘Bobo’ Omar and Fortune was another example where fans saw high level racing.”
After Arthur Blick Jr’s retirement, the 11 time MX1 champion and the non-availability of Asaf Natan, most of the time, has made the MX1 boring. “I wish Fortune, Bobo, the Orland brothers Aviv and Stav, Natan and I compete in one category next season to give fans value for money.”
Meanwhile, for the first time riders received financial rewards for their efforts. Title sponsors Mountain Dew awarded each category winner with Shs100,000, Amos Wekesa of Uganda Lodges awarded hole shot ( first to negotiate corner from start) Shs50,000 and the 11 ladies who competed each receive 10 litres of fuel from Ntende Finance.
