Kampala-After a dismal show at Dubai International Para- Badminton Championships, players will now turn their guns to Uganda International due April 25-28 at MTN Arena Lugogo.

A team of four including Elizabeth Mwesigwa, Ritah Asiimwe, Hassan Mubiru and Hadija Khamuka represented the country at the Dubai International, however none of them won a medal.

The quartet plus other Ugandan counterparts will compete with players from 26 countries in search for qualification points for their maiden Paralympics due next year in Tokyo.

“The tournament is important because it will help players earn points that will help them qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games,” said Simon Mugabi CEO Uganda Badminton Federation (UBF).

For the first time, Badminton will be included in the Paralympic games.
“Things were not easy in the Dubai International, we did not win any medals because teams were so tough, however my focus is on Uganda International,” said Khamuka who trains from Mbogo High School while her colleagues are in residential training at Lugogo.
