After lifting every piece of silverware there is to lift in Uganda for the last one year.
In-form Buzz Pirates are up for another challenge when they board for Kenya, Nairobi today for the Christie Sevens at the RFUEA Ground over the weekend.
The Christie Sevens will climax the 2018 Kenyan Rugby Union National Sevens Circuit and Pirates coach Bobby Musinguzi thinks it’s a good platform to test how well the young side can match up against the best in the region.
“Pirates will be sending a young team, and we will be looking at exposing them to a bigger stage and gain valuable experience along the way,” Musinguzi told Daily Monitor after taking his troops through their paces earlier in the week.
Fresh from a maiden National Sevens title that capped off a treble winning campaign, the Sea Robbers come up against Phillip Wokorach’s Kabras Sugar, Mean Machine and Stanbic Mwamba in pool A.

Emerging Sevens
The high-flying Pirates will have company as another Ugandan side, Emerging Sevens, is expected to feature in pool C alongside hosts Kenya Harlequins who have the services of Ugandans Joseph Aredo, Solomon Okia and Aaron Ofoyrwoth. Northern Suburbs and Resolution Impala complete the pool.
Pirates have in the past honored invites for events in Kenya and benefited tremendously according to Musinguzi.
“Pirates have used similar circuits in Kenya before to get the young players exposed and get that mental toughness to be competitive. The fruits of those efforts are what we are seeing now that they have matured and are winning on the local scene,” reasoned Musinguzi.
Pirates, who ended the Kobs-Heathens dominance of Ugandan rugby when they won the league, will no doubt leave the tournament a better experienced and tactically astute outfit.
Betway Kobs were invited for the same event last year and emerged plate winners.
