Kampala. The Uganda Prisons Netball team sets off tomorrow for Zanzibar to participate in the East and Central African Netball Club Championships that will start on Saturday with retaining the championships at the back of their minds.
Prisons beat NIC 46-45 in a highly contested final to emerge champions last year in Tanzania.

Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, the Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons appreciated the team that won last year’s championships.

Each Prisons recruit was given a rise in ranks they have been holding. On top of that the Prisons boss offered each team member $ 300 dollars (Shs1.1m) for the work well done.
Florence Nanyonga who was part of the winning squad believes the team is strong enough to retain the trophy.

“Our team has well prepared for this event and we expect to win it again because we have all it takes,” she said. With Zanzibar’s unfriendly weather condition, Prisons players say it is not a big deal because they have played there before.

“Zanzibar is very hot but we can brave that weather condition and perform to our best,” said Lilian Ajio, the team captain in an interview with NTV.
The nine – day event will be graced by netball clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Zanzibar.
