The She Cranes, Uganda’s netball team yesterday entered residential training at Materwood Hotel, Namugongo ahead of Netball World Cup due July 12-21 in Liverpool, England.
The team was supposed to enter residential early this month, however due to the impoverished state of the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), arising from delayed funding of the netball budget, the arrangement was put on hold. Daily Monitor has learnt that UNF has been assured by the National Council of Sports (NCS) that their Shs2.1b budget will be funded late this week.

The players needed at least Shs1m to leave home ahead of residential training.
Reliable sources reveal they had to settle for Shs200, 000 and this will be topped-up later when the federation receives money from government.
Jocelyn Ucanda the She Cranes team manager said they had to devise means of getting money as soon as possible to send players to residential camp.
“We were advised that the team will not perform well if we do not start residential camp immediately hence devising ways of making it possible,” she said.
Meanwhile Susan Anek the UNF president seems unbothered by the delay of the budget funding.
“The money is being processed and we shall receive it at any time. There is no reason why people should get worried,” Anek told Daily Monitor.
