Clean water is a basic need for every human but not all can access it.

About 51 per cent of Ugandans lack access to safe water and 82 per cent do not have access to improved sanitation facilities with children in primary schools also affected.

The predicament opens doors to transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio which may lead to death of those affected.

It’s the reason Non Government Organisation (NGO), Kampala Kids Run partnered with StarTimes for the sixth edition of the run with the aim of ensuring primary schools children can access safe drinking water.

During the launch of the December 8 Run at Kampala Parents School in Naguru, the school’s managing director Rajiv Ruparelia challenged the public not to rest until safe drinking water was no longer a problem.

“We are very lucky. We work tirelessly to make sure we provide the best yet many children do not have the privileges we have,” said Rajiv.

It is upon us to provide for them. Kampala Parents School pupils will also do a fundraising to support the cause.”

The 1.5km and 3km categorised Run will start from the Uganda Museum as early as 6am at Shs 20,000 to cater for kit and refreshments.

StarTimes CEO Franklin Wang said children’s health should be a priority in each society and clean water is a primary attribute when it comes to promoting healthy living especially in rural areas.

“We are excited to launch our second edition of StarTimes Kampala Kids Run 2019. The purpose is to come together to support our children in rural schools by providing safe drinking water. We care about each child’s health. So let us make StarTimes Kampala Kids Run a great success,” said Wang.
