Students and communities of Bwama Parish, Kabale District must be grinning from ear to ear after getting a new ferry and life jackets to help them cross Lake Bunyonyi.

More than Shs100m was collected from the Tax Derby football match organised by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on Friday at Legends Rugby Club. Forty companies took part in the event themed ‘Score a goal for Bwama Primary School’.

The school is located in Kabale District but some communities are cut off by Lake Bunyonyi.
The beneficiaries have for long risked their lives crossing Lake Bunyonyi on dugout canoes without life jackets to and from school.

“Some children have lost their lives while going to school. The water equipment will not only help the school children but the community at large,” said David Bahati State Minister for Finance who is also a resident of the area.

URA Commissioner General Doris Akol thanked participants for contributing to the charity event.
“Although taxpayers won the game, we are all winners because we have managed to raise money for children of Bwama Primary School who are the real winners in this.”
