Ugandan teams on fire in Tanzania

KAMPALA. Ugandan teams opened their account at the East Africa Inter University Games going on at the University of Dodoma in Tanzania with pomp.

In ladies football, Uganda Christian University, who are the 2018 Uganda Cup Champions, beat Kenya’s Masinde Muliro 3-1 in their opening game. Maureen Kinavodori scored a brace before Stella Nalwanga completed the rout. Vipers star Steven Mukwala was the hero with a brace as Kampala University defeated Kenya’s United States International University 4-0. Ibrahim Mugalusi and Omwirano Brian scored the other two goals.

Woodball powerhouses, Ndejje, found them in unfamiliar territory as they trailed archrivals UCU. Both finished with 249 strokes a piece in the first round of the singles. However UCU holds a one-stroke lead. In the doubles, Kenyatta University won gold while Ndejje settled for bronze.

Ndejje University had a 1-2 finish in swimming as Alphosine Agahozo Nana won the 800m with Emilly Babirye coming second. Track and field athletics starts today as organisers were by Tuesday still preparing the track.

The 11th edition of the Games has attracted more than 30 universities from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania and guests from Zambia.
