What you need to know:

Formidables Swim Club were exactly that as they sailed with little challenge to top the 13th Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) Masters Gala over the weekend.

The Oxford dictionary defines formidable as something ‘inspiring fear or respect through being impressively large, powerful, intense, or capable.’
Formidables Swim Club were exactly that as they sailed with little challenge to top the 13th Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) Masters Gala over the weekend.
First, they had 67 entries more than the 12th edition champions Altona. In the end Formidables garnered 3,225 points, over 1,000 more than Altona that managed 2,223.5.
Most of their 31 swimmers were capable and some experienced. From Catherine Nakimuli challenging Altona’s Sandra Arinaitwe (also age group winner with 198 points) in the women’s 25-29 years age group to 63 year old Peter Ssebanakita.
In between Formidables had other age group winners such as USF president Donald Rukare (50-54 years), George William Mukasa and 2008 Olympian
Aya Nakitanda while Gilbert Kaburu.
Emmanuel Lokwiya and Gilbert Kaburu among others rolled back the years in the pool and will hopefully be more technically connected to the sport as the likes of Joseph Kabogoza have been.
