Pirates are beaming with confidence ahead of the Uganda Cup having acquired forward Scot Oluoch from rivals MTN Heathens. Oluoch, the 2009 MVP and sports scribes’ rugby player of the year, completes a remarkable cycle around the three giants as he was with utl Kobs prior to Heathens.

“Yes we have agreed with the player (Oluoch). He is a free agent and the rules are very clear that he can move when the transfer window opens unlike for contracted players,” Godwin Kayangwe, the Pirates team manager, told Saturday Monitor.

Heathens coach Brian Tabaruka promised not to stand in his path. “We cannot hold back anyone who wants to join another club. We have the quality and quantity to cover up,” Tabaruka said. Sources who preferred anonymity, reiterated the forward’s move for a fee of around Shs3m as Pirates seek to add to their lone Cup triumph four years ago.

Major coup
Pulling off the signing of the Kenyan-born Rugby Cranes star will be a major coup for the Kampala RFC side who have continued to lurk in the shadow of Heathens and Kobs. In addition, Pirates also got Kobs lock Timothy Kabonero for a reported Shs1.2m and Kenyan centre Kevin Omiyo. To match Pirates’ lofty ambitions, Heathens are not going out of their way.

Lock Romano Ogwal has rejoined them after his time with Makerere University Impis ended. Allan Otim (Kobs) and Roland Bahemuka (Pirates) are on the verge of joining the Kyadondo side. Kobs, Cup champions, who will avoid Heathens and Pirates, at least until the final, are still reorganising their house under newly appointed rugby director Adrian Bukenya.

He claimed to be preoccupied with setting up a coaching team, way different from the current one-man show format.
