Warriors mean business after victory over Rhinos

KAMPALA. The opening round of the Nile Special Rugby Premiership had the top three sides pull off comfortable wins.
Champions Black Pirates blitzed newcomers Walukuba Titans 50-9, Betway Kobs won 54-0 at Hippos while Hima Heathens came from behind to beat Buffaloes 34-9.
The real deal though was at Legends Rugby Club where Dusupay Warriors gave a glimpse of what is to come with a 23-7 win over Shell Rimula Rhinos.
With a lot said before kickoff, both sides wanted to walk the talk as Richard Kinyai opened the scoring with a couple of penalties. Rhinos would respond with David Otwi’s converted penalty which was their last score before Warriors put the foot on the gas pedal.
New signing Allan Omoding and former Captain Ivan Ntungire punished Rhinos’ sloppy defending with tries, giving coach Ivan Markmot reason to smile with his first league win against one of his many former sides. “We were too fast for them, they could not cope with the speed at which we transitioned and it helped us wear them down,” a contented Markmot told Daily Monitor.
With such a powerful statement on the opening day, Markmot has promised more to come from his side as the season grows. “We are capable of doing even way better than this. We have to improve, get better and the entire crop is willing to get to the level I desire,” he added.
Saturday sees Warriors visit Plascon Mongers, who overcame Rams 19-0, with a second win on the trot in mind.
A win at Mongers will earn Warriors their best start to a league campaign since they were promoted in 2012.
