Kampala City Council (KCC) have dismissed reports that they had signed midfielder Joram Katende from rival Ecobaank Super League side Police.
The skilful playmaker has been a subject of speculation for having made a Shs8m move to the league leaders but featured in Police’s last two games against Victors and Maroons. “I know nothing about that rumour,” Katende, a substitute against Maroons told Daily Monitor.
His denial was corroborated by Police coach Angelo Lonyesi. “Those are false reports which we all don’t know where they got them from. If he is to leave, he has to be cleared by the administration of Police,” Lonyesi said. Adding; “if he Joram just left like that, he will be declared a deserter.” And the force’s sports officer Godfrey Mairu is in no doubt of where Katende will play his football in the long term.
“That isn’t true, Joram Katende is our player and a Policeman as well,” said Mairu. KCC spokesman Aldrine Nsubuga added his voice to the move of the former SC Villa and URA player. “That wasn’t official information from KCC.
It was a mistake from that reporter and l don’t know where he got that from,” Nsubuga explained. “When we are interested in signing a player, it doesn’t mean we sign them and as a club, we limit our media comments. We only talk to the media when it’s worth talking,” he added with glowing cynicism.
