African Stars jet in with vow to score more goals

Fans that will throng StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo this Friday are in for a goal galore and end-to-end Caf Champions League encounter between KCCA and Namibian side African Stars if their respective coaches are to be believed by what they have promised.

The first leg in Windhoek a fortnight ago yielded five goals so expect less defensive caution when the two sides face off in the decisive return leg two days to come.

To show their sheer determination to progress, African Stars where here in Tuesday morning to acclimatize, shed off the jet-lag and take on KCCA full throttle.
“The 10-hour journey (from Windhoek to Kampala) was a little bit longer, but we are well prepared to come and play the second leg and win,” said African Stars coach Muhammad Fargo on arrival at Entebbe Airport.

He added: “We have no injuries in our team and the only thing is that we have come here to give KCCA a very good match.

“I’m optimistic we will play well since we have a 3-2 goal advantage. The two goals KCCA scored were our own mistakes but we want to have more goals here.”
KCCA manager Mike Mutebi, after witnessing his star man Allan Okello demolish Onduparaka in the Pilsner Super 8 tourney last week, talked of an attacking game against African Stars as they seek to overturn the tables.

He will be however sweating over the fitness of left winger Mustapha Kizza and will most likely not be without Patrick Kaddu (off to Morocco) who along with youngster Sadat Anaku, led the onslaught on the Namibians in the first leg.

Strong side
“They (African Stars) are a strong side,” said Mutebi.
“They have belief and you would see that when they conceded an own goal early in the 13th minute but kept the belief and bringing the game to us.

“They asked us questions that we failed to answer in the very appropriate way but we hope to correct our mistakes in the return leg.

“We know they are going to come and play in the second leg. But ours is well cut out. If we can put away the chances we get then we can proceed to the next round,” added Mutebi.

At Sam Nujoma Stadium, an own goal by Ivan Kamberipa and Kaddu’s strike gave the Uganda league champions the away goals advantage but goals from Ambrosius Amseb and Youssouf Ibroihim (brace) ensured KCCA will need a low scoring win to progress to the next stage.
