Airtel managing director V.G Somasekhar was presumably one of the first people to meet new Uganda Cranes head coach Johnny McKinstry on Tuesday.

McKinstry, who was unveiled on Monday by interim Fufa president Justus Mugisha, paid a courtesy visit to Airtel, the teams’ official sponsors at their headquarters at Clement Hill Road in Kampala.

The Northern Irish man liked the footballing situation in Uganda lauding Airtel for their efforts in grassroots football, especially the U-17 Airtel Rising Stars.

Somasekhar had introduced McKinstry to the support Airtel gives to football including the Masaza Cup that climax on October 26.

McKinstry promised to build on previous achievements and work closely with Airtel Uganda to ensure the growth of youth football in Uganda.

His first competitive game will be next week - the return leg of the African Nations Championship preliminary game against Burundi. Uganda leads their East African counterparts 3-0.
