Allan Kabonge set to be named Kitara coach after leaving troubled Entebbe

KAMPALA. The animated Allan Kabonge is set to be unveiled as Kitara coach, Daily Monitor understands.
Hoima-based Kitara, who suffered a heartbreak last season after failing to join the Premier League by a whisker, have been unlucky since then.
In a span stretching less than three months, they have been handled by three coaches.
When the miraculous Tony Sekitto was let go after the expiry of his contract and failure to take the team to the Promised Land, he was replaced with former Express goalkeeper Sam Kawalya.
His name did not match the expectations before his lifestyle betrayed him. Kawalya was announced ‘missing’ by the club that has lost a bit of fans after shifting base to Kigaya Primary School, a 7km drive from their famous Booma grounds, which lies in the heart of the oil town.
Ever present Docker Magara, who was in charge of the team’s Uganda Cup game yesterday in Gulu against U-Touch, took care of several encounters helping to lift the team’s spirit.
But owners found Edward Golola fit to carry the team’s ambitions only that his honeymoon was short-lived. He did not lose in all games he was in charge until his departure was marked by an unceremonious loss to an unfancied Kireka in their last game of the first round.
The team went into panic mode when Golola returned to Kitende where Martinez Espinoza had been shown the exit. With the gaping coaching goal gawking, the choice is now between Kabonge, who said he would join a winning team on dumping Entebbe FC, a team he helped win just once throughout the 10 games of the first round.
Dove coach, Mark Twinamasiko, who guided The Saints to the top flight in 2015 on a meagre budget was the other candidate although his undoing was the refusal to accept a short-term contract.
Sources at the club confirm that Kabonge, who has guided Paidha Black Angels, Onduparaka, Masavu and Aurum Roses to the top flight, will be unveiled this week.
His main assignment is to beat Proline, Kiboga Young and Dove among others to the solitary promotion slot or squeeze through the play-offs, another costly gamble that has teams in the Elgon group in wait. That is if Kitara finishes among the top three in the Rwenzori Group.
The second round of the Big League will return next week on January 24. although fixtures are yet to be released.
