Kampala. Uspa, formed 49 years ago by Freddie Sekitto and a few friends; Fred Ssekabembe, Remmy Mayanja and Moses Oguttu, seeks to reassure funders of its future growth potential by revamping its image.
Patrick Kanyomozi, the association’s president, unveiled the rebranding and strategic pivot during Thursday night’s dinner where pool players Ritah Nimusiima and Mansoor Bwanika, the raly crew of Susan Muwonge and Edmond Kyeyune as well as long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo were awarded the best sports personalities for October, November and December 2018, respectively.

This award, which comes with a majestic plaque and Shs500,000, is courtesy of official sponsors Nile Special.
The rebranding came as Kanyomozi’s leadership scales its efforts to become more corporate. Vice president Leon Senyange is at the forefront of the rebranding activities.
“We are celebrating 50 years of our existence in 2020 and we have come a long way and we need to come to terms with the modern times,” Kanyomozi said as he unveiled the new Uspa logo as part of vibrant visual identity.
The design, which has been outsourced from Samwell Studios features light and dark blue color human elements with features of a pen and microphone.
The arch at the bottom, according to Kanyomozi, enhances the grounds on which we all exist to cover sports.

“The new appearance now reflects who we are today – a dynamic association with ambitious growth plans. We hope this refresh look will help support the next phase of our development,” Kanyomozi, added.
When asked whether this new identity will not erode the association’s history, Kanyomozi, who ascended to the presidency after overcoming the challenge of Ritah Aliguma and NTV’s Sam Mpoza, to replace Sabiiti Muwanga, said, “the one thing you are not going to see us do is be afraid or take less risks. For me, this is an opportunity to offer our members greater opportunities to excel.”
