Desabre drops hint on Cranes line up to face Tanzania

KAMPALA. Uganda Cranes conclude their week-long camp in Ismailia, Egypt today before flying to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania tomorrow for Sunday’s final 2019 Nations Cup qualifier confident of fighting for a desired result.
A 4-0 regional tour victory over Kampala Region and 1-1 draw with Egyptian club El Gaish will have given the Cranes some good match practice ahead of the East African showdown at the National Stadium.
But it is the 1-1 stalemate on Wednesday evening, where Moses Waiswa scored for Uganda that provided a fairer picture on what Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre could start with against Tanzania.
Hassan Wasswa’s suspension for the final 2019 Afcon qualifier against Tanzania left central defence in a spot of bother, forcing Desabre to test out Mustafa Mujuzi and Halid Lwaliwa, together with Timothy Awany, in Kampala and Ismailia in the last two weeks.
Denis Iguma’s injury also offered a window of hope to Vipers midfielder Tadeo Lwanga. If the script is anything to go by, the way the backline of Nicholas Wadada and Godfrey Walusimbi at full back and Awany and Murushid Jjuuko in central turned out against El Gaish is the same we could see start on Sunday.
There is a possibility of Robert Odongkara, who also started against El Gaish before being replaced by Salim Jamal, getting a nod but the urge of letting skipper Denis Onyango complete his clean sheet haul could also tempt Desabre’s coaching team otherwise.
Lwanga started Wednesday’s match alongside proven Khalid Aucho, offering the clearest sign that this could be the buffer against Mbwana Samatta and company on Sunday.
Ahead of the duo was goal scorer Moses Waiswa and Allan Kyambadde, with Emmanuel Okwi and Patrick Kaddu completing an alternating 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 system.
Allan Okello could be the wildcard to interfere with this set up on but Faruku Miya remains favourite to reclaim his spot in place of Kyambadde.
Uganda just want to add to their 13-point haul having qualified for Egypt with a match to spare, while Tanzania must beat the Cranes and pray for a better result between Cape Verde and Lesotho.
