FUFA bans three referees for poorly officiating Vipers-Express match

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has banned four referees over allegations that they poorly officiated the Wednesday match in which champions Express were held to a draw by Vipers.

During the match, Express FC conceded for the first time at Wankulukuku this season but camera angle showed Vipers' Tito Okello was offside.

The goal has been widely disputed by the football fans saying it was unfairly awarded with some accusing FUFA officials of match-fixing.

However, FUFA said Thursday that it had banned the referees who were in charge of the match.

“This is to notify all stakeholders that, upon the advice of the Referees Disciplinary Panel and the FUFA Referees Standing Committee, FUFA has banned three officials of match number 54 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League played on Wednesday 7th November 2018 at Muteesa II Stadium – Wankulukuku for poor officiation,” reads part of the statement on FUFA website.

The 2nd Assistant Referee Mr Samuel Kakembo is banned from performing refereeing services of all FUFA organised and sanctioned Competitions for a period of five years while the Centre Referee Mr Ronald Kirangwa was banned from performing refereeing services of all FUFA organised and sanctioned Competitions for three years.

FUFA further noted that the first Assistant Referee Ms Lydia Nantabo Wanyama is banned from performing refereeing services of all FUFA organised and sanctioned Competitions for f 60 days.

“The three match officials (Centre Referee, 1st Assistant and 2nd Assistant) have been forwarded to FUFA Committee for Match Integrity for further investigation and decision,” the statement added.
