Golola sacked, again!

Edward Golola’s job at Vipers was always going to be a precarious and short-lived one as long as he worked for trigger-happy employers.
Despite sitting four points atop the Uganda Premier League (UPL) table with 12 games to go, Golola and his entire technical team yesterday paid the price for an unexpected ouster in the Uganda Cup that saw the club ejected – via spot-kicks – by Buganda Regional League side Kajjansi United.
The football fraternity was left dumb folded by the club’s impromptu communication that confirmed the coach’s sacking alongside his entire technical team.
“The club would like to thank Golola and his team for their work during their time at Vipers SC and to wish them success in the future.
“A caretaker technical team will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time coach,” a statement posted on the club’s website on Thursday read in part.
This has been Golola’s third stint at the club as a head coach following previous periods in 2009-2011 and 2014-2015.
Golola’s third return had seen him garner 13 wins from 18 games, losing only thrice whilst sparing time to unearth budding talent like Karim Watambala, Bobos Byaruhanga, Jacob Okao and Aziz Kayondo – exactly what ambitious club President Lawrence Mulindwa demanded on his reappointment back in July 2019.
Whereas few can be surprised by Golola’s inexplicable and kneejerk axing, doubts linger whether they can still maintain a tasking title chase especially when the available replacement options are also limited.
Golola, liked his other sacked staff; Richard Wasswa, Ram Nyakana, Edward Ssali, Mathius Kassagga and Moses Oloya, were not readily available to speak by press time but the club too, failed to come out with a indisputable reason he was showed the exit.
“The decision was taken due to poor performances and an unattractive style of football that was not at the level required,” Vipers publicist Abdu Wasike laboured to expound to Daily Monitor. Golola has always called for patience if he is to revive the appealing brand of football, craft out a competent team and produce future stars – time he has been denied worsened by reported perpetual in-house wrangles.
Pundits argue that the habit for the Vipers’ hierarchy to have elementary reactions to every bad result (lost to Villa and Kajjansi in succession) at times betray Vipers hefty investment yet Golola who is inseparable with the Kitende establishment , is now learning the act of being sacked and thereafter reappointed.
