A clear picture of who will drive away with the Fufa Airtel awards prize car on December 14 has started to emerge after organisers trimmed down the best male players from the original 17 to five yesterday.
It is easy to see why the KCCA duo of Allan Okello and Mustapha Kizza are set to finish in the final three-man short list to be named soon – and even win it - for they won the league trophy last season, performed fairly well in the Fufa Drum tourney (another imperative yardstick) and have been with the Cranes set up for a while now.
For winning the Uganda Cup and Fufa Big League with Proline plus the fairytale run in the Caf Confederations Cup, Bright Anukani will also present a genuine case to challenge Okello and Kizza.
URA midfielder Shafiq Kagimu who like fellow nominee Allan Kayiwa won the Fufa Drum tourney with Buganda, will dream on even with an outside chance.

Elite panel
The panel of coaches and club captains that voted the five nominees will still be tasked to select the top three before the fans vote via the SMS code.
Saidi Kyeyune, Mike Mutyaba, Viane Sekajugo, Joel Mutakubwa, Bashir Mutanda, Joel Madondo, Dan Sserunkuma, Paul Mucureezi, Deogratiuos Ojok, Hillary Mukundane and Ivan Bogere who missed out will hope they get best XI mentions.
In the female category, it is a battle amongst Fauzia Najjemba, Shadia Nankya, Juliet Nalukenge, Hasifah Nassuna and Daisy Nakaziro.
