The name Allan Kabonge is synonymous with surprises in Ugandan football.

The eccentric coach, now in charge of Fufa Big League side Katwe United is plotting another mega shock by ejecting Uganda Cup reigning kings Proline today at StarTimes Stadium at the round of 64. Kabonge was part of Kyetume side that lost to Proline in last year’s Uganda Cup semis and he feels he has the right opportunity to avenge.

“I was supposed to be in the final at the expense of Proline but they were so lucky. We don’t fear them because they are in the top league but we shall respect them for doing well in the Caf Confederation Cup,” Kabonge warned.

Katwe United will not have new recruits Tony Odur and Livin Kabon ready for the crunch match but the youthful gaffer is confident to ride on the experience of Allan Tebusweke and Habib Kavuma to progress.

Saddled with relegation threats in the Uganda Premier League, Proline will hope to up their ante after losing 3-0 to Express in their last match. “We have to show that we are defending champions.

“We won the title while in the Big League so we know what to expect from a team like Katwe United that plays there,” Proline coach Baker Mbowa told Daily Monitor.

The familiarity between the two teams goes beyond sharing StarTimes Stadium as their home ground and flows to having had a couple of friendly games that have helped each team gauge the other’s strengths.
