Uganda Cranes defender Henry Kalungi could join DC United on a perpetual basis should he impress during his preseason training with the Major League Soccer (MLS) side.
The deal termed as a land mark agreement on the Kickers’ website, in which the third tier outfit have been named the official USL Pro affiliate of DC, will also see a minimum of four first team players loaned to Kickers on long term deals.
Kalungi, together with his Richmond Kickers coach Leigh Cowlishaw, who also joins D.C coaching staff to observe the preseason training, are part of a new partnership between the MLS side and third tier outfit Kickers.
Kalungi’s coach at Kickers, Cowlishaw, is confident the defender has what it takes to win over hearts at DC. “Henry has had a fantastic 12 months for club and country and this is a well-deserved opportunity for his efforts,” he told Kickers’ website. The 25-year-old has started all 97 matches played with Kickers over the past four seasons.
