Kampala Junior Team (KJT) won a double in the Gothia Cup tournament that climaxed last week in Sweden.

KJT’s under-16 and under-18 sides were unstoppable in one of the world’s toughest soccer tournaments in Gothenburg.

Over 70 countries across the world participated in the tournament with eight from Africa. KJT was the only African team that made the final stages. After topping their group that had sides from Lebanon, Portugal and Sweden, KJT’s class 16 boys beat Brazil’s youngsters in the semifinal before defeating Japanese side Consadole Sapporo 3-2 in the final.

After a 1-all stalemate in normal time, goalkeeper Salim Omar Magoola put up a definitive man-of-match performance as he saved two spot kicks to give KJT a penalty shoot-out victory over home team Gais in the boys’ U-18 final.
