Kitara region’s select team on Saturday defeated Uganda Cranes by a goal to nil in a friendly match played at Hoima Booma grounds. The lone goal was scored in the 43rd minute by Vincent Kasoki, who plays for the Bundibugyo-based Bumate United FC as a striker.

The goal came after the Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Yasiin Mugabi parried back Roger Mila Ahumuza’s cross into play, which allowed the fast advancing Kasoki to tap the ball into the net with ease.

In the second round, Cranes strategized and outplayed Kitara region select team but they were unable to find the back of the net. Jamil Kiyimba, the Kitara FC goalkeeper made vital saves throughout the match, to deny the national team a goal. 

The national team is currently on a countrywide tour, dubbed cranes Namutima, as they prepare to take on Somalia in the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

Uganda cranes will tussle it out with Somalia on July 27 in Mogadishu and the second leg will be played on August 3, 2019 at Namboole.

"We played well and utilised our chances. We closed well the spaces and played as a team," Mr Henry Gama who coached the Kitara region select team, said.
