What you need to know:

  • In yesterday’s games, holders Buganda were eliminated after losing their second group game. Bukedi relied on goals from Ibra Nsimbe, Fredison Gwoto, Benon Tahomera and Isaac Kisujju to win Buganda 4-2. Paul Sekulima and Enock Walusimbi scored Uganda’s consolation goals.

With Lango province home and dry in the quest for the Fufa Drum semifinals, the tug of war to the last spot in group B now features Busoga, Bugisu and West Nile.

Even without David Obua, the Uganda Cranes legend who qualified them through the group stages and KCCA mercurial playmaker Allan Okello (tied up with club and national team duties), Lango has exuded an all-conquering approach to this year’s competition with now two wins out of two matches.

In Monday’s 2-0 victory over last year’s semifinalists Busoga, Dan Engwedo’s side relied on man of the match Bronson Nsubuga to torment Charles Ayeikoh’s hapless side.

“We were a bit disorganised in the first match (against Bugisu) but we won. This (Bugisu) was a team full of mature players who know football but we succeeded with our plans are headed to the semis. We are focused to make it to the finals,” Engwedo, a former player at URA, revealed after they stormed the semifinals to be played on Saturday.
