Madondo stirs battle for positions in Chan team

Patrick Kaddu left an indelible mark scoring four times as the Cranes recorded a 7-2 aggregate victory over Somalia in the First round of the Chan Qualifiers.
With the striker having moved on to Morocco, that void will have to be filled for the qualifier against Burundi by Kaddu’s former teammate Mike Mutyaba as well as Fahad Bayo and Daniel Sserunkuma. The other forward expected to shoulder the goal scoring burden is Joel Madondo who scored a spectacular goal in the Jinja derby against Bul last week.
The Busoga United forward was a late replacement for Proline’s Edrisa Lubega and he says he is up for the challenge in what should be a stiff battle for places.
“I’m happy to join the national team. Every player’s dream is to join the national team. Everyone appears in good shape,” Madondo stated shortly before yesterday’s morning session at Lugogo.

“Personally it means a lot in my career for me to be here and I need to work hard. Every time you are here with the national team you have to show a lot of self-belief. So I’m willing to compete with all the players who are here,” he added.
Also part of the team is URA goalkeeper James Alitho in place of Villa’s Saidi Keni. 27 players took part in yesterday’s training session with the exception of the KCCA contingent that arrived earlier in the day.
The winner of the two legged tie whose second leg will be played at the Startimes Stadium in Lugogo on October 18 will qualify for the 2020 championship in Cameroon.
Only players featuring in their country’s own domestic league are eligible to compete in the tournament.
