KAMPALA. National Beach Soccer League teams willing to dethrone Isabeti ought to find ways of stopping marksman Roch Somoka.
Look, on Sunday as the defending champions opened their league account at Lido Beach-Entebbe, Somoka netted 10 goals as they whitewashed Bishop Stuart 7-2 and Entebbe Sharks 8-2.
“I didn’t go to the market because I trust the boys I had last season when we won the title for the first time. With Somoka scoring 10 goals in two games I’m sure we are going to win the league again,” Isabeti manager Issa Assimwe told Daily Monitor.
In a revised league version, Isabeti will play all teams home and away and this to Assimwe, will justify why they are the ‘best beach soccer outfit’ in the country.
“We compare ourselves to Vipers (plays in the Uganda Premier League) and we believe we can beat many teams. I look at Mubs, St Lawrence University (SLAU) and KIU as the other teams to rival us,” he added.
In the Bishop Stuart demolition, Somoka netted four goals, Rica Byaruhanga (2) and Swaib Kakwaya (1) while in the Entebbe Sharks mauling, Somoka bagged six goals and Kakwaya (2).
“We still have areas to improve in our game. We start slowly in the first and second quarters and come out strongly in the third quarter,” Assimwe added.
Isabeti now sit sixth on 12-team table after losing their opening tie to Mubs by forfeiture. Three-time winners Mubs lead the log with 13 points from five matches followed by SLAU and Buganda Royal.
