Sserunkuma: We know it is our last Caf chance

Kampala. It is, in every true sense, their last chance, and they know it.
Having ejected Sudan’s Al-Merreikh in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League, landed into Algeria’s Constantine ambush, and started new life in the Confederation Cup with a home draw with Sfaxien, Vipers now have to play all their cards on Sunday.
The goalless draw against the Tunisians last week at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende left Vipers needing a score stalemate, victory or another goalless draw for spot kicks in North Africa to progress.
Statistically, it looks a delicately poised affair but when you consider Vipers poor travels, you manage your expectations.
“We shall handle the pressure,” Vipers lead striker Daniel Sserunkuma, who together with Tito Okello and Abraham Ndugwa will be tasked to get that all-important goal, told Daily Monitor. “We are doing our best and we hope to get goals. We know it’s our last chance.”
And they have been getting the goals in the league and Uganda Cup since Kenyan import Michael Nam Ouma teamed up with trusted servant Edward Golola following the sacking of Mexican coach Javier Espinoza.
“As you know, every coach has his own philosophy and as player you have to adapt quickly,” Sserunkuma said of the new coaching combination.
“And we are adapting very well on his (Ouma) attacking philosophy and we are getting the goals.” They will need them most on Sunday, where they will have to be more clinical than they attempted against the impressive Sfaxien goalkeeper Ayman Dahmen.
“Yes they had a good keeper,” but we have to beat him now if we are to progress to the group stage.” Sserunkuma is aware they also come up against wintry weather but believes it will not be alien to them.
“I think in Constantine was much colder (so) it’s not surprise for us.”
The winner over the two legs will progress to the group stage.
