Ssingo County won the Masaza Cup final at Mandela National Stadium under the tutelage of coach Shafiq Bisaso.
The competition throughout the tourney was stiff but Ssingo beat all the odds to overpower 2016 winners Buddu, who were tutored by Simon Mugerwa.
However, last Saturday, Bisaso changed the tide and began the new season with three points after beating Kalangala-based side Ssese 3-0 at Mityana Ssaza Grounds.

Special youngster
It was a game of its kind, and players from both teams exhibited loads of talent, more notably Singo’s goalkeeper Derrick Were who had a superb day in office as he showcased his impeccable ball-handling skills. Were denied Ssese’s dangerman Denis Mwemeezi from scoring on a number of attempts.

The soggy playground did not stop youngster Ronald Ssempala from scoring an opener for his side after he left goalkeeper Yusuf Bwambale beaten and left for the dead.
When Ssempala scored, even Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the chief guest of the day, was visibly excited as justified by his smile.
Coach Fred Kasekende’s Ssese side continued to pay the price with their porous defence; comprising of Alex Nsubuga and Denis Kalega; that leaked another pair of goals.
Led by midfielder, Ponsiano Ssegonja, who was so instrumental throughout the game, Singo scored the second goal through Geoffrey Gaganga before striker Sula Mpanga sealed victory for Ssingo with a solo effort.
“Opening games are always tough for me. Most of the time, my players take a lot of time to settle into the game,” said Kasekende who donned a maroon stripped suit on the day.
Being the defending champions Bisaso knew that the three points were inevitable.
“ I know what it takes to play in this tournament. My players believe in what I instruct them to do, ‘’ said the soft-spoken Bisaso.
The game attracted hordes of fans and despite the heavy rain downpour it was a full house in Mityana.
