Tooro extend Basena wait for first Villa victory

Kampala. SC Villa moved off the bottom of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a 2-all draw away to Tooro on a wet Buhinga ground yesterday.
But Uganda’s most successful side with 16 league titles remains the only winless team in the 16-team division after their fourth draw in eight games played thus far.
Yesterday’s result will feel like two points lost rather one gained for Villa who twice squandered the lead to increase the pressure on under fire coach Moses Basena.
Bashir Mutanda gave Villa a 13th minute lead after heading home a cross from captain Ambrose Kirya for his fourth goal and half the number his team has scored this season.

But Tooro, starting with three players Musa Mukasa, Mahad Kakooza and Simon Sserunkuma who escaped Villa’s ownership crisis in the close season, fought back.
The nimble-footed Allan Kayiwa scored on the turn to equalize for the hosts on the hour mark before Pius Wangi restored Villa’s advantage just three minutes later.
The former Vipers forward scored from a rebound after Tooro goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa spilled the ball from an earlier shot.
Left back Isa Mubiru then restored parity for Tooro who have made a slightly better start than their opponents. They have now won once in eight games with six points, two better than Villa who are third from bottom but level with Nyamityobora and Paidha Black Angels.
