Ugandans Aucho and Lwanga star in Egypt

Hard luck. Moses Opondo struck his first goal in the 67th minute for new club Odense Boldklub but it wasn’t enough as they lost 2-1 at home to Aarhus Gymnastikforening in the Danish Superliga.

What you need to know:

  • Still in North Africa, forward Nelson Senkatuka made his debut for Moroccan Botola leaders Mogreb Tetouan after coming on for scorer Adnane Ouadry in the 85th minute in the 2-0 win over Raja Beni Mellal.

A number of Egyptian clubs are already getting value for their money recently spent on Ugandan players in the recent transfer window. Uganda Cranes’ defensive midfield pairing Khalid Aucho and Taddeo Lwanga took on offensive duties to help their respective clubs Misr El-Makasa and Tanta to opening wins in the Egyptian Premier League at the weekend.

Aucho struck at the half-hour mark to give Makasa the lead and it is that momentum which guided them to a 3-2 away win against Aswan on Sunday.
Like Aucho, Lwanga is not a customary match-winner but he created the opportunity en route to Tanta’s 1-0 win away against Wadi Degla at the Petro Sport Stadium. The former Vipers’ skipper Lwanga hit his free-kick low past the wall and when the opposing goal keeper Abdel Monsef parried it away, Islam Fouad buried home the rebound in the 88th minute.

“It was a tough game but we managed to get the three points,” Lwanga told this paper. “I was ready to hit it and we had done this several times in the training sessions. It all comes from the trust by the coach,” he described the free-kick.
This is Lwanga’s first stint outside Uganda and settling in at Tanta has not been rosy. On Saturday, Allan Kyambadde featured for 90 minutes but his club El Gouna suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Ismaily.
Former Cranes’ coach Sebastien Desabre’s team Pyramids are top by virtue of goal difference after an opening 4-0 win over ENPPI. Winger Abdul Lumala was an unused substitute for Pyramids. Al-Ittihad Alexandria with striker Emmanuel Okwi were due to face Micho Sredojevic’s Zamalek whereas Derrick Nsibambi’s Smouha was as well set to meet Al Ahly last night.

Still in North Africa, forward Nelson Senkatuka made his debut for Moroccan Botola leaders Mogreb Tetouan after coming on for scorer Adnane Ouadry in the 85th minute in the 2-0 win over Raja Beni Mellal.
Earlier on Friday, Moses Opondo struck his first goal in the 67th minute for new club Odense Boldklub but it wasn’t enough as they lost 2-1 at home to Aarhus Gymnastikforening in the Danish Superliga. Farouk Miya’s team Konyaspor failed to convert possession into goals hence losing 1-0 to 10-man Goztepe in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday.
